Happy Birthday Ryan! 41-Years Old

Don’t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.  ~J.D. Salinger

I know it’s been quite some time since I’ve last posted.  While, I didn’t miss Kyle’s actual birthday, I don’t think that’s possible, however I did miss posting on his birthday, not entirely by my choice.  (Side note.  I will rectify the lack of consistent birthday posts by back dating one later.)

What makes today, Monday, September 24th so special that it warrants a post?  Today is Ryan’s birthday.  He would have been 41-years old.

This year, not only am I missing Ryan, which I do daily, but I’m seriously missing Kyle, which I also do daily.  He’s busy with his senior year of high school and believe it or not, he’s also taking college classes.  I’m sure his every waking minute isn’t booked, but I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m not Kyle’s priority anymore.  I haven’t been for a few years.  As far as I’m concerned, we’re still a team and I’m here for him any time he needs me, or if he just wants to hang.  I’ll take what I can get.

I guess Kyle gets his busy lifestyle from me.  I’ve always been the busy bee (pun intended since I’m a beekeeper), always keeping myself booked, usually with work.  Although, as I get older, I’m learning to relax more.

Come to think of it, Ryan was like that too.  Always working and keeping busy.  He was a hard worker that never complained, much like my dad and my pappy.

Today was no exception with a heavy workload.  Monday’s always seem to hold that characteristic.  Today was even more of a Monday than usual, probably because I was out of the office most of Friday and had to get caught up, in addition to completing today’s tasks.

What pulled me out of the office on Friday?  I had to renew my passport, a last minute decision.  Since Pennsylvania is now requiring an updated passport to fly starting this October, meaning days from now, I needed to make haste and send for my documentation.  I will be taking to the airways next month and I didn’t want any issues.

So, among all the emails, calls and tasks, I decided to balance out my day and warm my insides by calling Kyle.  I haven’t talked to that little bugger in some time and I miss him terribly.  Maybe more so today because it is his dad’s birthday.  Even before making the call, I figured I wouldn’t get Kyle on the phone, but I thought he might respond via text message.  No such luck either way, although I’m always hopeful.

Regardless of what Kyle’s up to, I wanted to call out Ryan’s birthday.  Just because he’s no longer with us physically, I know spiritually he looks over Kyle and I believe he looks over me as well.  Of course, I need a team of spirits keeping me out of trouble.

This was a quick note to keep Ryan’s spirit alive and to ease the void, ever so slightly.

Happy Birthday Ryan!

About the quote:  J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye was one of my favorite high school books as well as Kyle’s.  And while I’m not one hundred percent positive, I believe Ryan liked that book too.  Of course, what teenage didn’t like that book?
